CESSCO Fabrication and Engineering Ltd. is hiring a full-time B Pressure Welder in Edmonton, AB, to work day shifts in our pressure vessel fabrication shop.
The B Pressure Welder performs a range of production processes and needs a basic understanding of the construction codes that apply to their work. This role requires following all safety practices and company standards for quality and productivity. This includes completing required safety training and reporting safety hazards to supervisors promptly.
Candidates must understand the proper use of welding consumables, flux, preheat and other welding requirements. They must also be able to check weld size and quality and apply the required markings to completed or partially completed welds. B Pressure Welders must be able to read and understand technical drawings and documents and use basic algebra and geometry.
Excellent communication skills are critical in this position as the successful candidate will need to regularly coordinate with clients, inspectors, and team members.
We're looking for someone with a High School Diploma as well as trade certification in welding, including a valid Alberta "B" Pressure Certificate of Competency or Machine Operator Certificate of Competency. Candidates should also have current or previous performance qualifications in most welding processes and preferably at least five years of experience.
This role includes physical work and requires manual dexterity and the ability to stand, climb, bend and crawl. The B Pressure Welder must also be able to lift and exert force of up to 10 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally.
The successful candidate will be eligible for benefits after 90 days of work, including health and dental care, disability insurance, life insurance, and RRSP matching. This position pays $44 to $47 per hour and has a 40-hour work week with only day shifts.

Duties
Essential Responsibilities
- Ensure you are trained in, follow and support enforcement of safety programs
governing activities in all fabrication shops. - Ensure the correct application of welding specifications and tolerances to all shop
- Ensure knowledge of the correct consumable, flux, preheat and other information as
required prior to commencing any welding operations - Ensure weld size, quality and required markings (STAMPING) are applied to all
completed or partially completed welds. - Immediately report any defective equipment or safety condition to a supervisor
including those which are quickly and easily corrected by them. - Immediately reports any issues with welding consumables.
- Ensure you work area is tidy before and after your tasks.
- Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- May occasionally provide direction and supervision to apprentices as directed.
- Is obligated to observe and act on Safety.
Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and documents such as welding procedures, standards and specifications, purchase orders, terms and conditions and other documents related to fabrication requirements.
- A background in all welding processes, material handling, forming, burning, rigging, layout and fitting operations.
- Ongoing training and qualification with CESSCO welding procedures, safety policies, quality control, and productivity.
- Ability to interpret and apply safety and other internal policies to any situation.
- Ability to speak effectively to clients, inspectors, and production team members.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to sketch basic images as a part of communicating to others.
- Ability to interpret and understand a variety of instructions in written, oral or drawing form.
- Ability to think and react quickly in a highly dynamic environment.
- Ability to multitask and remain highly organized.
- Manual dexterity, sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
- Frequent climbing stairs / ladders, bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and crouching.

- Frequent operation of mobile equipment.

Work Environment
- The working environment is heavy industrial.
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with frequent exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and all types of weather and temperature conditions.
- The employee is routinely required to work in confined spaces, at heights and in extreme temperature conditions.
- Wearing and use of proper personal protective equipment is required.
Education
- High School Diploma.
- Trade Certification in Welding including a valid Alberta “B” Pressure Certificate of Competency or Machine Operator Certificate of Competency. Other levels of certification may be permitted on a case-by-case basis IE; “C” pressure.
- Performance qualifications (current or previous) in most welding processes.
