We are hiring a full-time Intermediate Estimator in Edmonton, AB to join our team in our fabrication shop.
The Intermediate Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for pressure vessels, piping, structural steel, and large platework. The role involves analyzing technical
specifications and collaborating closely with internal teams to tailor proposals to meet customer requirements.
As such the ability to read and interpret estimating documents such as drawings, data sheets, purchase orders, and more is critical as well as the ability to learn to use an estimating program and speak effectively to clients and internal departments.
This positions requires consistent, professional communication with other departments and clients, including acting as a resource to explain customer requirements and attending and participating in bid clarification and pre-award meetings on request, so the ability to provide clear, professional written correspondence is vital. Additionally, the successful candidate will need to be able to remain highly organized and detail-oriented, even while multitasking and prioritizing work to meet scheduled deadlines is important.
Financial math skills and the ability to understand and make calculations such as margins, percentages, and discounts is also critical.
Additional responsibilities for this position include preparing detailed written quotations, estimating labour requirements and creating delivery schedules, handing off proposals post-award to communicate package requirements to different departments, and following the standard estimating process.
We are looking for someone with at least 3 years of relevant work experience in estimating as well as experience in pressure vessel manufacturing. We would also like to see a College or University Degree in Engineering Design & Drafting Technology or Mechanical Engineering, but we would also consider a candidate with relevant trades experience. Knowledge of ASME Codes is important.

Duties
Preparing detailed quotations for assigned inquiries/projects, in accordance with inquiry documents by:
- Perform material takeoffs from inquiry data sheets and specifications.
- Sourcing material and services costs and deliveries.
- Estimating labour requirements and determining approximate delivery schedules.
- Preparing detailed written quotations.
- Following the Standard Estimating Process that relies on the involvement of the Engineering, Q.C. and Production Departments regarding contract requirements.
- Handoff/kick off proposals post-award to communicate all package requirements to different departments.
- Acting as a resource to explain customer requirements, as identified during the estimating
and clarification process, to the pertinent departments. - Attending and participating in bid clarification and pre-award meetings, on request.
- Reviewing customer purchase orders to verify compliance with the quotation (estimate) and pre-award correspondence.
- Works as a member of Estimating Team on continuous improvement Initiatives as identified by the department.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- College (NAIT) or University Degree in Engineering Design & Drafting Technology or Mechanical Engineering an asset. Relevant trades experience will also be considered.
- 3+ years relevant experience.
- Experience in pressure vessel manufacturing.
- Knowledge of ASME Codes.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, data sheets, standards and specifications, and purchase orders.
- Ability to learn and use an estimating program to build the estimate.
- Ability to speak effectively to clients and internal departments.
- Ability to calculate and apply financial math such as margins, percentages and discounts.
- Ability to interpret and understand a variety of instructions in written, oral, technical drawing or schedule form.
- Ability to provide clear and professional written correspondence.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills are needed, especially in Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Highly organized and detailed oriented.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work to meet scheduled deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative environment.
BONUS SKILLS
- Familiarity with Compress Pressure Vessel Design software.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Projects or other project management applications.
- Knowledge of PIP standards and TEMA standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit at a desk most of the day, walk, talk and listen.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is rarely exposed to fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions and noise.
- Wear and use of proper personal protective equipment is required when entering the applicable areas on the premises but is not required during regular job duties.
