The Quality Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the Quality Assurance and Quality Control program at CESSCO. This includes maintaining and continuously improving quality systems, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards, and developing a high-performing inspection team. The role is critical to ensuring product integrity, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction—particularly in the fabrication of custom pressure vessels and related equipment.
Duties
Quality System Management & Compliance
- Maintain and enforce company Quality Assurance and Quality Control Manuals.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulatory requirements including:
- ASME Section VIII Div. 1 & 2 (“U”, “U2”, “R” stamps)
- ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.9, B51
- API 620, 650, 653
- CSA W47.1, W59
- ABSA standards
- Oversee the development, maintenance, and application of welding procedures and welder qualifications.
- Ensure all inspection and test records meet customer and code requirements.
Team Leadership & Department Oversight
- Lead, mentor, and manage the Quality Control Inspection team.
- Provide tools, training, and direction to support effective inspection practices.
- Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy and continuous improvement within the team.
- Coordinate internal audits and drive corrective actions from audit finding.
Process Improvement & KPI Development
- Develop and implement quality KPIs to monitor performance and drive improvements.
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions related to defects, rework, or test failures.
- Support Lean and continuous improvement initiatives across operations.
- Work cross-functionally with engineering, production, and procurement to embed quality into all processes.
Project & Supplier Support
- Assist the engineering and project management teams with QA-related project execution
and warranty resolution. - Support supplier qualification and evaluation processes.
- Maintain up-to-date records of supplier certifications, welder qualifications, and code
stamps.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties, tasks, or initiatives as assigned or directed by the General Manager to support overall business objectives and operational effectiveness.
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of experience in Quality Assurance in a custom fabrication environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of pressure vessel fabrication and applicable codes (ASME, CSA, API).
- Previous experience as a quality inspector in structural steel or pressure vessel manufacturing is required.
Proven ability to lead and develop teams in a high-paced industrial setting. - Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, and other quality improvement methodologies.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Competence in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and deliver under pressure.
- Experience interfacing with client inspectors and regulatory authorities.
