Description
We are hiring a Plate Roll Operator at CESSCO Fabrication & Engineering to join our Preparation Shop team in Edmonton, AB.
This is a full-time position with a 40-hour work week and an hourly pay rate of $41 - $47, based on experience. We are looking for candidates with a minimum of 5 years' experience in plate rolling. Specifically, we'd like to see a sound knowledge base in drawing interpretation and specification reading, interpretation, and application. A background in fabrication, material handling, forming, welding, burning, rigging, layout and fitting operations at a minimum is also important.
Responsibilities for this role include operating 3-roll and 4-roll plate rolling machines to bend plate into arcs, cylinders, and cones; operating our overhead crane; and ensuring the correct application of specifications and tolerances. As such, you'll need to be able to reach and interpret documents and instructions in written, oral, or drawing form. You may have to sketch basic images to communicate with others although communicating effectively in general is also an important skill. Being able to apply basic algebra and geometry is critical.
Other responsibilities for this position include ensuring daily, weekly, and monthly checks are performed on any equipment you are assigned to prior to using it. You'll need to ensure maintenance tasks are completed and immediately report defective equipment or safety conditions to supervisors. Safety is important to us at CESSCO, and we require that all employees are able to interpret and apply safety and other internal policies to any situation as well as think and react quickly in a highly dynamic environment.
Preparation shop employees are required to perform multiple different tasks. Their individual specialization is based on aptitude and performance, though they may still be required to operate other machinery or perform additional tasks as required, so an ability to multi-task and remain highly organized would be considered very valuable in any candidates for the job.
There is a physical component to this job that requires all applicants have some manual dexterity, and be capable of sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time. Climbing ladders, kneeling, crouching, bending, crawling, and lifting up to 50 lbs are also required activities. You'll need to be comfortable occasionally working at heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme temperatures. Having the visual acuity to read printed and electronic documents as well as the hearing capacity to receive, perceive, and react to common construction environment auditory stimuli is also important.
The successful candidate will need to be comfortable wearing PPE as this is a heavy industrial work environment with frequent exposure to dust, fumes, noise, noxious odors, gases, electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and all types of weather and temperature conditions.
At CESSCO, we're always aiming for excellence, and the people we work with are driven to do the best work they can in a deliberate, safety-conscious way. If that sounds like you, please consider applying for this position through the application form on this page. We look forward to hearing from you.
